One of the best items I've ever made is this black fleece trench. I used McCall's 8155 but lengthened it to my knees and added patch pockets and a hood. I also used some square purple buttons just to give it more interesting. In the back, I secured a piece of elastic in two places to provide some shaping. This one simple trick that took 15 minutes made the coat look so much more chic. Most unlined jacket patterns can be adapted for fleece so they look more formal but still feel like wearing a blanket.
One thing I wish I had done was use a brighter color. Although black is great because it goes with everything, it is really dangerous if you are walking on the street and no one sees you. I'm hoping to get some really cheap fleece in either lavender or perhaps a camel color and make the exact same jacket. If you live in a northern climate that gets very little sunlight in the winter and you might be walking outside, it would be a good idea to consider a lighter color (even light grey).
